Do you have any tips on how to take a suitable photo for my Zombie Makeover?
Digital cameras are probably the quickest and most convenient way of capturing your subject for the Zombie Makeover. You can take lots of shots and select the best one to email to us. Scanning a suitable photograph using your computer and scanner is also another option. However, it's probably best to take a photo specifically for a Zombie Makeover - that way you can have some creative control as to how your finished Zombie Makeover will look.
Here are a few important things to keep in mind when taking or selecting your photograph:
Head and shoulders only, please!
Full-body Zombie Makeovers are more time consuming and perhaps may be an option in the future here at ZombieMakeover.com. For now though, head and shoulder portraits only. Also, you don't need a full head shot. It can add a certain dynamic to the photo if the top of the head is not in the shot. See examples below...
Face the front.
There can be a slight deviation from this and you can face slightly left/right/up/down but nothing too wild!
Light the Subject well...
If using a flash, don't take the photo too close to the subject as it can over-expose the photo and wash out all the detail. You can, to a certain extent, use creative lighting, but again, nothing too extreme.
Try to have a plain background to the photograph.
This is not essential but as the background is removed in the Zombification process, this makes things a lot easier.
Facial expression.
Try not to smile. You're one of the Undead after all and you don't have much to smile about! A vacant stare works well. In some cases, a snarl or growl works well too, giving the impression of a Zombie Feeding Frenzy!
Strike a Pose!
It might look good if you tilt your head to one side too, just like in the Zombie films! Every good Zombie has some degree of head-tilting going on, so why not you too? Purely optional, of course.
Avoid touching the face.
Hands detract from the main subject.
Tilt, baby!
When taking your photo, a tilting of the camera can add to the atmosphere of the photo and ultimately the whole feel of your Zombie Makeover. Again, nothing too exaggerated...
... also, don't wear a hat!
Does the photo I email you have to be in colour?
Not at all! It doesn't really matter although black and white photographs add a certain atmosphere to the photo - perfect for raising the dead. It's not necessary of course, as any colour photo will give just as good results. It's up to you... get creative!

Good example of a photo. It's head and shoulders and is nice and evenly lit.
Although closer than the previous example, this is a good, dramatic shot. The whole face is not in the photo, which adds to the drama!
A great photo which illustrates how altering the angle of your head adds to the overall impact of the photo. It also is nicely lit with under-lighting to give the whole photo a dramatic feel. (See below.)
Gurning is an occupational hazard for your friendly neighbourhood Zombie Undead!
